This is the handle wedging as picked from the Arundel Flea Market for a 3 1/4 lb Snow and Neally poll axe.

Yup, that’s a steel main wedge with 2 flat washers driven in next to it.

And there’s the guilty parties after pulling. This type of improvisation will make it impossible to keep the head tight on the handle and a loose head means (eventually) a flying head and someone getting hurt.
