In The Saw Shop: Restored vintage splitting and felling axes for sale!

Vern Burke, SwiftWater Edge Tool Works

Skowhegan, ME

There are now more restored vintage splitting and felling axes available in my inventory!

Craftsman Boy’s Axe. This is a Craftsman boy’s axe with a 2 1/2lb head and a new 28″ hickory handle with an old style linseed oil finish. This axe is a surprisingly good splitting axe and makes a great axe for camping. Sharp, clean, and ready to go!

TBA splitting axe. This is a TBA poll axe with a 3 1/2lb head set up as a classic splitting axe with an original 28″ handle. Handles in this size are next to impossible to find new so this one has been rewedged and treated to our linseed oil finish, leaving a beautiful dark mahogany color. With its wedge shaped profile, this is a super splitting axe for most wood.

Kelley Rockaway pattern. This is an early 1900s Kelley Rockaway pattern poll axe with a 3 1/2lb head and a new 36″ hickory handle. With its semi-wedge profile, this axe is a good compromise choice for both chopping and light splitting duty.

1922 Sager Chemical Axe. This is a great marked 1922 Sager Chemical
Axe, made by the Warren Tool Co of Warren Penn. The chemical axe was so named because William Sager invented and patented the chemical process the left a protective coating on the axe head to stop rust. This head is a double bit, 4lb, felling axe in the Michigan pattern with a new 36″ hickory handle.
